Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia- In the midst of various criticisms, President Joko Widodo asked that the food estate development project be continued in 2024 as an economic transformation project in the field of food security.
Looking at the food estate polemic, the Minister of Agriculture for the 2004-2009 period, Anton Apriyantono, focused more on the accuracy of the government’s food estate program.
Anton said that currently 40% of rice fields in Indonesia are rain-fed rice fields, so if the government wants to increase production of main foods such as rice, it can focus on increasing the production of existing rice fields, not opening new fields.
