Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Huawei recently made a splash in the smartphone industry by suddenly launching the Mate 60 Pro. This ‘mysterious’ cellphone was suddenly sold on the market without any promotional materials or teasers.
The benchmark price is 6,999 yuan or the equivalent of Rp. 14.6 million. This cellphone targets the premium class by presenting a 5G network. This is what became the source of the furor in the technology industry.
Why? Here are some facts you need to know about the Mate 60 Pro, summarized by CNBC Indonesia, Monday (4/9/2023), from Reuters.
Suspected of Developing Own 5G Chip
Since 2019, the United States (US) has blocked Huawei’s access to purchase 5G network technology to develop sophisticated cellphones that can compete with iPhone and Samsung.
However, Huawei has said several times that it will not give up. As a result, Mate 60 Pro is the proof. This cellphone is equipped with a 5G network that is allegedly not dependent on US technology.
Huawei developed its own 5G chip for the Mate 60 Pro with the help of a chip manufacturer from China, Semiconductor Manufacturing International Co (SMIC).
Huawei Mate 60 Pro Makes Joe Biden Worried
If Huawei and China succeed in developing their own 5G chip, then Joe Biden will no longer have the power to put pressure on the country controlled by Xi Jinping.
In the technology war between the two countries, the US and China block each other’s technology. The US blocks China’s access to its chip technology. If China can make it by themselves, then the ‘bomb’ thrown by the US will not be effective.
Huawei Doesn’t Want to Show Off the Mate 60 Pro
Huawei doesn’t openly call the Mate 60 Pro a 5G phone. The Chinese manufacturer only said “this is the most ferocious HP Mate”.
However, compact buyers post videos of the HP’s ‘teardown’ and share their speed tests when accessing social media. As a result, the download speed of the Mate 60 Pro beats the premium 5G HP on the market.
This cellphone is equipped with the Kirin 9000 chipset from Huawei which uses technology from SMIC, according to TechInsights analyst Dan Hutcheson.
Huawei Mate 60 Pro Immediately Ludes
Thanks to the excitement, the Huawei Mate 60 Pro is selling well in the market. The first batch of HP sold out immediately, ordered through an online platform in China.
Huawei’s physical store in Shenzhen and its official website say that the cellphone will be available again in mid-September 2023.
