Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The future Presidential Candidate (Bacapres) from the Coalition for Change for Unity (KPP) Anies Baswedan suddenly mentioned the words Konoha and Wakanda. The two words were mentioned by Anies when giving a speech at the FISIP UI Nationals Lecture with the theme “Where Do We Want Our Indonesia?” Ideas, Experiences and Designs of Future Leaders” at FISIP UI, Depok, last Tuesday (29/8/2023).
According to Anies, these two words are often used by Indonesians to convey criticism but with fear. Finally they conveyed this criticism by using the words Konoha and Wakanda on social media.
“We see that the quality of democracy must be improved. We mentioned one earlier about freedom of expression, democracy, it’s not just elections or not, but democracy is values that grow in society,” said Anies.
“Now this is what is often a problem now, because we see on social media, a lot of people who write call it Konoha, Wakanda,” he added.

This statement was immediately responded to by the Main Expert of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Ali Mochtar Ngabalin. Ngabalin emphasized that he did not see any residents who were afraid to criticize the government during President Jokowi’s era.
“I don’t think so. What is certain is that the government of Joko Widodo and the Republic of Indonesia are guaranteed freedom of opinion in public spaces, freedom for everyone to express opinions is also guaranteed by the constitution,” said Ngabalin, last Tuesday.
To quote Indonesian CNNhe understands Anies’ statement regarding his presidential bid in 2024. Ngabalin thinks that this right is legitimate, but he invites Anies to educate the public regarding criticism and democracy.
“I think he certainly understands and as a figure speaking in front of students at UI, it’s normal. Surely the campus community also understands, can distinguish between criticism and blasphemy,” he said.
