Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The phenomenon of ‘Korean Waves’ swept across the world, including Indonesia.
CEO of Infinite Studios Nongsa Batam Mike Wiluan highlighted that the ‘Korean Wave’ not only promotes Korean culture around the world, but also the country’s film industry.
They have even found the right distribution channel with a solid market. He sees that Indonesia also has enormous potential for that.
“So we feel that in the end Indonesia has enormous potential, not only domestically, but also for us to be able to export content internationally,” said Mike at the ASEAN Indo Pacific Forum (AIPF), in Jakarta, Wednesday (6/ 9/2023).
As happened some time ago when the film The Raid exploded, which triggered a major revival of the action genre film in Indonesia.
After that, quite a number of films made by Indonesian talents gained a large following and market.
“I really saw this awakening happening and now these people (involved in The Raid), actors and producers are working in Hollywood, working in Europe, they are working elsewhere, and we are very proud,” he said.
However, according to him, there still needs to be more improvement, and involvement and collaboration from the government. Where there is a structure that is more formulated to be able to seek funding and develop industries against each other.
Apart from that, one important point to penetrate the market is through the OTT platform.
“I mean we’ve seen the success of Korean content, Bollywood, Japanese films. They move across national borders more easily and I say this thanks to OTT players who have entered the industry and allowed for more distribution, the potential for our content,” he said. .
“So there are more opportunities that help us grow the industry and help move towards the roadmap in general.” he concluded.
