Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) announced the start of Indonesia’s rainy season. It is estimated that the rainy season will occur around October to December 2023.
However, BMKG Head Dwikorita Karnawati explained that the start of the rainy season would not occur at the same time. Some areas have entered the rainy season even at the end of August 2023.
“Until the end of August 2023, several ZOMs (Season Zones) have entered the rainy season. Covering most of Aceh, most of North Sumatra, parts of Riau, central West Sumatra and a small part of the Riau Islands,” said Dwikorita during a virtual press conference, Friday ( 8/9/2023).
Dwikorita added that there were 446 ZOMs experiencing a later than normal rainy season. Apart from that, there are 56 ZOMs entering the rainy season in the same period as normal and 22 ZOMs experiencing the rainy season earlier.
“Areas where rainfall is below normal are a small part of North Sumatra, southern Lampung, a small part of Banten, a small part of West Java, eastern Central Java, southern East Java, parts of West Kalimantan, parts of NTT, northern Central Sulawesi, Papua “Southern West and western Papua,” said Dwikorita.
Rainy season in Indonesia
Based on the BMKG’s statement, the following is the prediction for the start of the rainy season in Indonesia:
– September: parts of West Sumatra and southern Riau
– October: Jambi, northern South Sumatra, southern Central Java, parts of West Kalimantan, western Central Kalimantan, most of East Kalimantan
– November: South Sumatra, Lampung, most of Banten, Jakarta, West Java, most of Central Java, parts of East Java, Bali, a small part of NTB, a small part of NTT, North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, parts of Central Sulawesi, most of South Sulawesi, Maluku North, and South Papua, the south
– December: Northern East Java, most of NTB, most of NTT, most of Southeast Sulawesi, and Maluku.
