Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The eSAF frame or enhanced Smart Architecture Frame on Honda motorbikes is currently in the public spotlight. This frame is considered to be easily broken, porous, to rust when used. Several videos of broken, porous and rusted eSAF frames have gone viral on social media. What is an eSAF frame?
The eSAF frame is the structure on Honda motorcycles that connects the front of the bike to the rider’s seat. eSAF is a new frame that Honda has been using since 2019 and has very few connections.
This frame model is used by several of the latest Honda scooters, such as the 2019 Honda Genio, 2020 Honda BeAT, 2020 Honda BeAT Street, 2020 Honda Scoopy, to the 2022 Honda Vario 160.
The eSAF frame is also not round like a pipe and uses steel plates which are pressed and welded using laser welding so that it is different from ordinary frames. AHM claims the eSAF frame is 8% lighter than the previous Honda scooter frame. As a result, motor fuel consumption is also more economical, for example the Honda Beat up to 60.6 km/liter (ISS feature on), the Honda Vario 160 46.9 km/liter, and the Honda Scoopy 59 km/liter.
In addition, the use of the eSAF frame also makes space larger in the fuel tank and trunk. The Honda BeAT, for example, has a 12 liter trunk with a 4.2 liter fuel tank.
Furthermore, the Honda Vario 160 has a trunk capacity of 18 liters and a 5.5 liter fuel tank. Then the Honda Genio has a 14 liter trunk with a 4.2 liter fuel tank. Finally, the Honda Scoopy has a 15.4 liter trunk with a 4.2 liter fuel tank.

Meanwhile, regarding consumer complaints, Honda has also stepped in and conducted an investigation into this matter.
“We are handling it. We are trying to provide the best for consumers,” said Astra Honda Motor (AHM) Corporate Communication GM Ahmad Muhibbuddin to CNBC Indonesia as quoted on Wednesday (23/8/2023).
Ahmad also emphasized that Honda still does not let go of hands for granted and is responsible for guaranteeing the replacement of the motorbike frame to its customers. But there is a condition.
“There is a guarantee in accordance with applicable regulations. Guarantee for the frame and electrical system for 1 year or 10,000 km depending on which comes first,” said Muhibbudin.
For consumers who no longer have a warranty, they can order the eSAF frame. CNBC Indonesia browsed the Daya Part Shop page owned by PT Daya Adicipta Motora as the Main Dealer for Honda motorcycles in West Java. By entering the part number 50100K1AN00, which is the code for the Honda BeAT frame components, price information of IDR 1,150,000 will appear.
As for the eSAF frame, the Honda Scoopy and Genio motorbikes use the frame component code 50100K2FN00 which is sold at IDR 1,150,000. The last model that uses eSAF is the Honda Vario 160. The eSAF frame for the Vario 160 with the Frame Body Component codes 50100K2SN00 and 50100K2SN10 sells for IDR 1,370,500. This bike uses the eSAF frame since February 2022.
If you want to buy it, consumers must prepare their KTP, STNK, and BPKB as confirmation to the official repair shop to make a frame number that matches the vehicle’s identity. For the record, eSAF frames are only sold at authorized repair shops.
