Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Politician Budiman Sudjatmiko was officially kicked out of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) last Thursday (24/8). The dismissal was the result of Budiman’s declaration supporting the presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto.
In fact, the political direction of the party with the bull symbol is quite clear, where PDIP Chairperson Megawati has appointed Ganjar Pranowo as vice president. Budiman himself has joined PDIP since 19 years ago or started in 2004.
Budiman himself did not comment too much on his dismissal. What is certain is that the former activist for the 1998 reform chose a tolerant attitude.
“There was no (response). I just said ‘accepted’,” Budiman said as quoted from Detik.com.
Quoting the letter received by Detik.com, it can be seen that the letter contained a decision to impose sanctions on Budiman. The letter was signed by PDIP Ketum Megawati Soekarnoputri and PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto.
One of the points in the letter states that it relates to the imposition of organizational sanctions in the form of dismissal of Budiman.
“Gives organizational sanctions in the form of dismissal to Mr. Budiman Sudjatmiko, MAMPhil. from membership of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle,” read one of the points of the letter.
The Beginning of Prabowo’s Closeness to Budiman
Budiman’s closeness to Prabowo began when the former PDIP cadre visited Prabowo’s residence on Jalan Kertanegara, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, Tuesday (18/7/2023). During the meeting, Budiman revealed a number of talking points with Prabowo.
He also praised Prabowo as a nationalist figure who had great thoughts. “We discussed a lot of things for quite a long time, we have a lot in common, vision, common views,” he said.
According to Budiman, Prabowo represents a perspective of political leadership that suits him. He also assessed that in the midst of the current global crisis, two leadership backgrounds are needed, namely the military and activists.
“The two people are usually able to talk about strategic matters in a comprehensive manner,” said Budiman.
Budiman also did not hesitate to say that Prabowo, who has a nationalist spirit, is one of the best people Indonesia needs.
Meanwhile, Prabowo revealed that he and Budiman agreed that the current global challenges were not easy to face.
“So his thought was that Indonesia’s big ships, a big country like Indonesia, needed unity,” he said.
A month after the meeting, Budiman officially expressed his support for Prabowo and declared Prabowo-Budiman (Prabu) volunteers. In fact, Budiman said he was ready to take responsibility for this decision.
The Prabu Declaration was held at the Marina Convention, Semarang, last Friday (18/8/2023). Budiman emphasized that the decision was made in the name and personal desire and had nothing to do with political parties.
“But I’m sure, I don’t have any bad prejudice against the PDI Perjuangan party, and the PDI Perjuangan, of course, has rules and if I am sanctioned, that’s my responsibility, that’s entirely the responsibility of Budiman Sudjatmiko,” explained Budiman, Sunday (20/8 /2023).
Budiman admits that he has reasons to prefer Prabowo over Ganjar Pranowo, who is promoted by his party. Even though he is ready to accept sanctions, Budiman hopes that he will not be fired from the PDI Perjuangan party.
He then suggested that PDIP and Gerindra could form a strategic alliance in the 2024 Presidential Election. That way, his recent attitude of supporting Prabowo would not be considered wrong.
Apart from that, Budiman also hopes that the formation of the PDIP and Gerindra alliance will not result in him being fired by the PDIP.
