Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud Md believes that the summoning of the General Chair of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Muhaimin Iskandar by the Corruption Eradication Commission is not legal politicization. The government, he said, maintains that the law should not be used as a political tool.
“In my opinion, this is not politicization of the law. We are of the opinion that the law should not be used as a tool for political pressure,” said Mahfud on the sidelines of the 43rd Asean Summit in Jakarta, quoted on Saturday (9/9/2023).
The KPK examined Muhaimin Iskandar as a witness in the case of alleged corruption in the TKI protection system at the Ministry of Manpower in 2012 on Thursday (7/9/2023). The examination lasted almost 5 hours. The KPK said that Muhaimin’s statement as Minister of Manpower when the case occurred was needed by investigators.
Mahfud Md said that he had also been summoned by the KPK. At that time, he said, he was being investigated for the corruption case of Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Akil Mochtar. Mahfud was summoned because he once served as Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court.
According to Mahfud, the Corruption Eradication Committee at that time only carried out technical investigations. “For example, is it true that you were Mr. AM’s leader? In what year? How did you divide up the handling of cases? Did you know that Mr. AM was OTT and so on?” said Mahfud.
“That’s all the question and the contents of the question and answer have already been made. At that time, I was only told to read and correct it then sign. After that I went home, no more than 30 minutes,” continued Mahfud.
Mahfud suspects that this is also the reason why the KPK summoned Muhaimin. He said the examination aimed to connect the series of corruption incidents so that they could become clearer.
Muhaimin, after being questioned by the KPK, stated that he had come to help the anti-corruption commission complete the investigation into this case. He said he had explained everything he remembered and heard while serving as minister. “I have helped explain everything I know,” he said.
