Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Prabowo Subianto has received political support from 2 major parties in Indonesia, namely Golkar and the National Mandate Party (PAN). Then, Prabowo, who is the Minister of Defense as well as General Chair of Prabowo’s Gerindra Party, could become the most powerful figure in the 2024 Presidential Election.
In fact, Deputy Chairperson of PAN, Yandri Susanto, said that Prabowo’s potential to win the 2024 Presidential Election is getting bigger, but a vice presidential candidate is needed as a determinant. The figure of Erick Thohir is also seen as the right running mate for Prabowo.
“Because Pak Prabowo has a high chance of winning (Pilpres 2024) with Pak Prabowo’s survey, Pak Erick is tall, then he is young, energetic, has achievements, I think it is right if Pak Prabowo takes ET later,” said Yandri at the MPR/DPR Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, last Monday quoted Saturday (19/8/2023).
Launching CNN Indonesia, Yandri said the results of Erick Thohir’s recent survey showed a high level of electability on the vice presidential candidate side. Therefore, he said that PAN’s position on proposing Erick was not a subjective matter.
Erick’s name took first place as the public choice cawapres according to the Political Indicator survey which was held June 20-24. Its electability was recorded at 22.9%. Meanwhile, the Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI) also recorded the same thing in a survey on July 1-8. In the simulation of 24 vice presidential candidates, Erick was in the top position with 14.3% electability.
“PAN is very objective in proposing the ET,” he said.
Golkar Party Chairperson Airlangga Hartarto in a separate place discussed the possibility of President Jokowi’s son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, becoming Prabowo Subianto’s running mate. Airlangga said the option depended on the dynamics that would occur. According to him, now is the last round of determining the presidential election candidates.
“Yes, this is the last chapter, there are still some developments. We’ll see what happens next,” said Airlangga at the Jakarta Presidential Palace, Monday.
Airlangga admitted that there had been no specific decision regarding Prabowo’s running mate. However, the four parties have agreed to determine it together.
“Yesterday we made a collaboration where strategic decisions were discussed by the general chairmen of the four parties,” said Airlangga.
