Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Use of electric vehicle batteries (Electric Vehicles/EV) originating from China was complained about. The reason is, the battery doesn’t last long or only lasts about a year.
This is what the Director of Strategic Planning and Business Development, Pertamina New & Renewable Energy, Fadli Rahman, said. He said that initially his party had promised that the battery life of electric motorbikes from China would be able to last for the next 3-4 years.
However, after only 1 year of use, the electric motorbike battery was already damaged.
“Lifetime what we bought from China was promised to last 2-3 years but after only 1 year it was damaged. “There are various kinds of damage, it’s just that the ideal motorbike lasts as long as possible,” he said at the Press Conference and The Launch of Electric Vehicle White Paper by Deloitte Indonesia and Foundry, Tuesday (12/9/2023).
Therefore, through the Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC), the company is working to ensure that the batteries produced by IBC have a long life. At least the battery life can last for the next 4-5 years.
“It’s just that ideally the motorbike should have a lifetime as long as possible. Maybe around 4-5 years is what we are targeting now,” he said.
Meanwhile, Special Staff to the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources for the Acceleration of Industrial Development in the Energy and Mineral Resources sector, Agus Tjahajana Wirakusumah, said that it is quite natural that the batteries used by electric motorbikes in Indonesia are short-lived. This also depends on the price of the battery itself.
“Now back to the issue of price, whether it’s expensive or not, it can take a long time, it can be cheap but quickly replaced, that’s another matter,” he added.
