Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Social Security Administrative Body (BPJS) for Health states that it can cover the costs of treating Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI). The guarantee for medical expenses will be carried out by BPJS as long as it is in accordance with the applicable provisions and procedures.
“Diseases caused by pollution such as ISPA and causing disturbances in bodily functions based on medical indications that require health services, can be guaranteed by BPJS Kesehatan according to the applicable provisions and procedures,” said Assistant Deputy for Public Communication and Public Relations at BPJS Kesehatan Agustian Fardianto when contacted on Thursday. Ardi said participants could access first level health facilities to get basic health services. According to him, if the doctor assesses that there is a medical indication that requires the services of a specialist doctor, then the participant can be referred to an advanced referral health facility (FKRTL).
“In an emergency situation, participants can immediately access the closest FKRTL from where the participant is,” he said.
As is known, air conditions in Jakarta and most parts of Indonesia are deteriorating due to pollution. Pollution also makes many residents attacked by ISPA. This can be seen from the increase in the number of insurance claims for acute respiratory infections (ARI) due to the recent craze of air pollution.
According to data from the Indonesian Life Insurance Association (AAJI) as of June 2023, payments for health insurance claims increased by 35.3% or IDR 9.39 trillion. The highest increase was in the payment of individual health insurance claims which reached IDR 5.89 trillion, an increase of 36.1%.
