Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – In the midst of the excitement about blocking iPhones in China, it turns out that the French government is also having problems with Apple.
French Secretary of State for the Digital Sector, Cedric O, asked Apple to stop selling the iPhone 12 series in his country. The reason is different from the Xi Jinping government which accuses the iPhone of threatening national security.
Apart from that, the blocking planned by the French government specifically targets one iPhone model. The French government says the iPhone 12 series emits high levels of radiation, exceeding the country’s limits.
The French Institute for Food, Environment and Health-Safety (ANES) found that the iPhone 12 exceeded the Specific Absroption Rate (SAR) limit by 2 watts per kilogram.
SAR is a measurement indicator that calculates the amount of radio frequency power absorbed by the human body through the use of a cellphone.
According to local French newspaper, Le Parisien, the French radiation authority (ANFR) has informed Apple to withhold sales of the iPhone 12 after its SAR test results were declared not to comply with regulations.
“Apple is expected to respond within 2 weeks. If not, we are prepared to request the withdrawal of the circulation of iPhone 12 units on the market. This rule applies to all technology companies,” said a government statement.
