Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Social media has been stirred up by an old photo taken in the 1940s. The photo is viral because it shows a human who is suspected of being a time traveler from the future.
A Facebook user, Kristjan Hoffmann, posted a black-and-white photo in the Icelandic group, Gamlar ljósmyndir, in 2016 with the caption “One thing that draws attention to this beautiful image is in 2016”.
A number of users claim they saw a man using a cellphone, aka a device that was too sophisticated at that time.
According to the NYPost report, the man looked very prominent because he was wearing a light-colored coat and his hands were close to his ears as if he was making a phone call.

This caused a stir on social media. Because, in the era of the 1940s there was no cell phone technology. Thus, the man looked out of place in the crowd of 1940s society.
“One thing that catches the eye of the image is that above the window, in the center corner of the image, a man is leaning and using a cell phone,” Hoffman wrote, quoted from the NY Post, Saturday (2/9/2023).
“I don’t know what to say, I don’t think he was just on the phone. He was frozen, alone, and wearing a different head scarf and scarf and acting the same as we are today.”
Previously, this photo had also been viral on YouTube.
This portrait is discussed in a conspiracy theory video entitled 10 Real Cases of Times Travel That Cannot Explained.
However, most netizens disagree with the time traveler theory. Some users have mentioned that the man was probably checking to see if his watch was working to suggesting that he was probably smoking a pipe and scratching his ear.
