Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Wuling Motors (Wuling) and Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID) have reported sales results at the 2023 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) which took place on 10-20 August 2023.
One thing that is attracting attention is the sale of both battery electric vehicles (BEV) and domestic production, namely Wuling Air ev and Hyundai Ioniq 5. Then, who is selling better?
From Hyundai data, the Ioniq 5, as the flagship line of electric vehicles from the South Korean brand, has received high enthusiasm from consumers with a total of 776 vehicle order letters (SPK). However, when compared to Air ev, in fact Ioniq 5’s sales are still losing.
The micro car contributed 50% of Wuling’s total sales at GIIAS 2023 which touched 1,771 SPK. This means that Air ev contributed around 885 SPK, beating Ioniq 5’s SPK which recorded only 776 SPK.
Of this percentage, the Air ev Long Range variant was the most ordered and the latest Air ev Lite variant itself has managed to contribute 143 SPK.
At this year’s GIIAS event, Wuling complemented the two existing variants, Long Range and Standard Range, with the addition of one of the most affordable variants, namely Air ev Lite. This type is officially marketed starting August 14, 2023 at a price of Rp. 206,000,000 (OTR Jakarta) and receives a VAT incentive from the government to Rp. 188.9 million.
“Wuling’s participation in GIIAS 2023 this time has gone well and recorded good achievements. We are grateful for the enthusiasm of the Wuling booth visitors who have witnessed, tried product lines, and made transactions during the exhibition. This achievement by Wuling shows positive growth compared to compared to last year. We continue to be committed to innovating to provide services and products for a better life in line with the spirit of ‘Drive For A Better Life’,” explained Dian Asmahani as Brand and Marketing Director of Wuling Motors.
Apart from the Air ev, Wuling’s sales were also supported by other cars such as the Confero series from the MPV segment in second place with 20% or around 354 units, and followed by the Wuling Alvez compact SUV which contributed 17% or 301 units to orders.
When Wuling relies on Air ev in sales at GIIAS 2023, it turns out that Hyundai is not relying on Ioniq 5, but Stargazer which dominates orders with a total of more than 1,600 SPK which includes orders for New Stargazer and Stargazer X. Under Ioniq 5 which recorded 776 SPK there is Creta which selling with a total of 768 SPK. In total, Hyundai sold 3,727 cars at GIIAS 2023.
“We really appreciate the extraordinary response from the public towards Hyundai products at GIIAS 2023, especially for superior models such as the New STARGAZER, STARGAZER X, IONIQ 5, and also CRETA. The Indonesian public’s interest in our products is increasing, this is evident. from the high order enthusiasm,” said Chief Operating Officer of PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia Fransiscus Soerjopranoto.
