Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Huawei made a surprise for the United States (US) with the HP Mate 60 Pro. One of them is because the cellphone supports the 5G network.
This is made possible by Huawei’s Kirin 9000 chip which was developed by SMIC, a company from Shanghai.
For your information, Huawei can no longer ‘touch’ US technology since it was blacklisted in 2019. However, the presence of the Kirin 9000 in the Mate 60 Pro is a new bomb for the US technology giant.
It is said that the chip uses a special Armv9 core and a special GPU architecture designed by Huawei. This chip is said to have extraordinary technical capabilities.
Semanalysis wrote that the Kirin 900 has performance and power consumption in various tests equivalent to Qualcomm which is 1-2 years old, namely the Snapdragon 888 and Snapdragon 8G1.
Apart from that, the Kirin 9000S also has capabilities equivalent to those presented by Qualcomm. Namely through the Arm A510 for Kirin built on SMIC’s N+2 (7nm) with Qualcomm’s S8G1 2022 compared to Samsung’s 4LPX processing.
N+2 is also said to be much better than previously imagined. The Kirin 9000S has solid power and performance.
“Even with weak export controls, this is the leading chip that will be at the forefront in 2021,” wrote the page, quoted Wednesday (13/9/2023).
SMIC’s manufacturing capabilities are believed to be Semianalysis also very strong. The page states that SMIC was actually far behind TSMC.
Some even say they are several years behind Intel and Samsung. However, that distance can be narrowed. Semianalysis wrote because many SMIC engineers were former TSMC employees.
“Because many technical personnel come from mainland China and many immigrants from Taiwan previously worked at TSMC,” he said Semianalysis.
