Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Huawei’s new cellphone, named Mate 60 Pro, has shocked the world because it has a sophisticated chip made in China. Analytics company TechInsights took apart the Huawei Mate 60 Pro to find out the specifications of the mysterious chip.
Since last week’s sneak launch, Huawei has yet to release the innards of the Mate 60 Pro. The only explanation Huawei has given is that the new chip in the Mate 60 Pro allows it to make satellite phone calls.
Huawei Mate 60 Pro turns out to be equipped with a Kirin 9000 chip made by a Chinese semiconductor company, namely Semiconductor Manufacturing International (SMIC).
According to TechInsights, quoted Reuters, The Kirin 9000 is SMIC’s most advanced chip and is built using 7nm (nano meter) technology. This chip is proof of the success of the Chinese government in building an ecosystem of local chip producer ecosystems.

Chinese citizens who already have the Mate 60 Pro also provide information about Huawei’s new cellphone via social media. According to them, the Mate 60 Pro has a download speed equivalent to the most premium 5G cellphone.
The launch of the Huawei Mate 60 Pro caused an uproar on social media and mass media in China. Some, according Reuters, linked the silent launch of the Mate 60 Pro to US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo’s visit to Beijing.
This is because the US has been blocking Huawei’s access to US-made chip-making devices since 2019. The US blockade meant that Huawei could only launch a limited number of 5G devices, using its remaining chip stock.
However, TechInsights says Huawei’s ambitions are to ramp up 5G HP production again by the end of this year, armed with its own semiconductor device design capabilities and SMIC chip manufacturing capabilities.
TechInsights analyst Dan Hutcheson stated that Huawei’s latest development was a “slap in the face” for the United States.
“Raimando came to cool things off, and this chip [seperti China mengatakan ke AS] ‘Look what we can do, we don’t need you guys.'”
