Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (INDEF) stated that the majority of netizens believe that coal-fired power plants are the main cause of air pollution in Jakarta. This was revealed through monitoring and analysis conducted by Continuum INDEF on social media Twitter.
“According to the public, the sector that contributes is energy,” said INDEF Continuum Data Analyst Maisie Sagita in a public discussion on the INDEF Youtube channel, Tuesday (22/8/2023).
INDEF monitored conversation trends on Twitter from 31 July to 20 August 2023. The monitoring results found that there were 44,268 tweets about Jakarta’s air pollution and were made by 34,590 accounts.
The results of the analysis found that there were 9,500 discussions which stated that the energy sector was the main cause of pollution. The transportation and industrial sectors are in 2nd and 3rd place.
From the energy sector, INDEF’s Continuum found that there are a number of topics that are most often raised by netizens. The topic in the first place that is most discussed about “due to a decrease in air quality, PLTU is not environmentally friendly”.
The second topic that is often brought up is “coal dust causes itching”. This topic gets a score of 16.6%. While in third place is “because the generator material is from coal” which gets 12.2%.
