Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Kremlin on Wednesday (30/8/2023) said in the results of an investigation there was an element of intent in the plane crash that killed mercenary boss Yevgeny Prigozhin.
This was Russia’s first explicit acknowledgment that it was possible Prigozhin had been killed.
“It is clear that various versions are being considered, including that – you know what we are talking about – say, a deliberate atrocity,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters, as quoted Reuters.
“Let’s wait for the results of our Russian investigation.”
Prigozhin’s Embraer private jet flew from Moscow to St. Petersburg. Petersburg fell north of Moscow and killed all 10 people on board on 23 August, including two other Wagner figures, four of his bodyguards, and three crew members.
The cause is still unclear, but villagers near the scene said they heard an explosion and then saw the jet crash into the ground.
The plane crashed exactly two months since Prigozhin took control of the southern city of Rostov in late June, which was the start of an uprising or coup that shook the very foundations of Russia under President Vladimir Putin.
