Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max has launched with the complete iPhone 15 line. Unexpectedly, Apple did not increase the price of the iPhone 15 even though the prices of components and materials rose due to global supply chain constraints.
The cancellation of the iPhone 15 price could be bad news for cellphone traders. Apple’s decision could be a signal that the world cellphone market has not been able to recover from the sluggishness.
Bob O’Donnell, head of research at TECHnalysis Research, admitted that he was surprised that Apple maintained the price of its newest line of cellphones at the launch of the iPhone 15.
“I think both Apple and mobile carriers know that consumers are feeling budget pressures. Without dramatic changes [dari iPhone 14] it will become increasingly difficult to encourage iPhone owners to upgrade [ke iPhone versi terbaru]. Keeping prices stable could help,” O’Donnell said.
The price of the cheapest version of the iPhone 15 is US$ 799 or around Rp. 12.27 million, the iPhone 15 Plus starts at US$ 899 (Rp. 13.8 million), while the iPhone 15 Pro starts at US$ 999 (Rp. 15.34 million). ).
The most premium version, namely the iPhone 15 Pro Max which is wrapped in titanium material, is sold starting at US$ 1,199 (Rp. 18.41 million). The cheapest version of the iPhone 15 Pro Max has a storage capacity of 256 GB. Last year, Apple released the iPhone 14 Pro Max with a storage capacity of 128 GB at a cheaper price, namely US$ 1,099 (Rp. 16.87 million).
According to Reuters, The iPhone accounts for half of Apple’s sales revenue. Now Apple and other cellphone manufacturers are facing a sluggish market.
Counterpoint Research stated that cellphone sales for the April-June period will decline from 294.5 million units in 2022 to 268 million units in 2023. However, Apple was able to record better performance than other cellphone brands. Apple shipments from factories to retailers only fell slightly from 46.5 million units to 45.3 million units in the same period.
Apple launched the iPhone 15 series just days after Huawei made a splash with the silent launch of the Huawei Mate 60 Pro. For years, Huawei has had difficulty launching premium cellphones because US cellphone component manufacturers are prohibited from doing business with these Chinese cellphone manufacturers.
The processor embedded in the Huawei Mate 60 Pro is said to show that the Chinese chip industry can now supply components for premium cellphones. The combination of Huawei’s move and China’s ban on civil servants using iPhones is expected to hit iPhone sales in China, Apple’s fastest-growing market.
