Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Geopolitical tensions between China and the United States (US) are heating up with the ban on the export of chip components from Joe Biden. The restriction policy has been signed and will take effect from 2024.
As a result, the Chinese tech giants have flocked to buying up US chips this year, while they are still ‘loose’. This brings fresh air to Nvidia as a seasoned AI chip manufacturer from the US.
According to the latest report, the supply of Nvidia H100 chips has been bought up until 2024. This chip is used for AI development.
Not only did it get booming orders from China, Nvidia also received orders for AI chips from Arab and US companies. Presumably, the booming demand made Nvidia profit a lot from the selling price of its chips.
Financial services firm Raymond James said the production price of Nvidia’s H100 chip is estimated at around US$ 3,320. Meanwhile, the selling price is around US$ 25,000-30,000, quoted from Toms HardwareFriday (18/8/2023).
Nvidia seems to be one of the biggest beneficiaries of the AI boom lately. In fact, this year, the manufacturer made it into the ranks of companies worth ‘1 trillion dollars’.
According to Glassdoor, the average annual salary for Nvidia electronics hardware engineers is US$ 202,000 or the equivalent of Rp. 3 billion. This high-profile salary cannot be separated from the difficult process of manufacturing sophisticated AI chips such as the H100.
