Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President Joko Widodo commented on the statement by the Chairperson of the PDIP DPP Puan Maharani regarding Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s chance to become the vice presidential candidate to accompany Ganjar Pranowo.
Met after attending the commemoration of Constitution Day and the 78th Birthday of the Deliberative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia at the Nusantara IV MPR/DPR/DPD Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Friday (18/8/2023), Jokowi was reluctant to comment much.
“Ask Mrs. Puan,” he said.
Previously, Puan stated that the PDIP had opened up the opportunity for Gibran to advance to become Ganjar’s vice presidential candidate. However, this depends on the Constitutional Court’s decision regarding the request for judicial review regarding the minimum threshold for presidential and cawapres candidates.
“We are looking at this. If the Constitutional Court then agrees that there are candidates for vice president under 40 years old, then Mas Gibran could run,” said Puan to reporters at the Merdeka Palace, Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Thursday (17/8 /2023).
Puan emphasized that until now there were still five candidates for vice president. They are Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno, Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir, former Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces General TNI (Purn.) Andika Perkasa, General Chair of the Democratic Party DPP Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, and General Chair of the National Awakening Party Muhaimin Iskandar .
“Today there are still five but other names are still being considered, right? It’s still 2 months (before the registration for presidential and cawapres candidates opens in October 2023),” said Puan.
“So it’s still enough for us to look at the track record, then what are the things that must be filled in or not or what was asked earlier whether the person concerned is willing to join the PDIP or already has a choice with another presidential candidate,” he continued.
Especially for Erick, apart from the position of the National Mandate Party which has supported Prabowo, Puan said the situation was still the same.
“Yes, the PDIP still has that name, but if later the party concerned or the party that supports Pak Erick Thohir doesn’t like it, then that’s okay,” he said.
