Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo held a bilateral meeting with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Friday (8/9/2023). During the meeting several investment projects were discussed.
“Regarding South Korea, infrastructure cooperation and hopes that MRT phase 4 construction can begin in 2024,” said Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, after a meeting at the Presidential Palace Complex, Friday (8/9/2023).
Apart from that, investment by LG and partners in Indonesia was also discussed so that they could realize investments worth US$ 9.8 billion. Also related to cooperation in building a cathode factory in Batam with South Korea.
“The cathode factory in Batam involves Indonesian BUMN Indonesia and the president said to involve regional entrepreneurs,” said Retno.
Not only that, according to Retno, Jokowi also invited the participation of the Korea Development Bank to support cooperation regarding electric vehicles.
“Mr President also appreciates the South Korean Government’s support in developing the capital city of the archipelago smart city and hopes to also support new sectors in the fields of human resource development and bureaucratic digitalization,” said Retno.
During the meeting, development was also discussed medical tourism industry especially in Bali, as well as opening greater market access to South Korea for Indonesian agricultural products.
Several agreements were also signed at the meeting, such as in the field of e-mobility, industrial cooperation, agricultural machineryAnd halal cooperation.
On a separate occasion, the Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM, Bahlil Lahadalia, said that during the meeting there was a discussion regarding the acceleration of development of electric vehicle batteries, as well as import-export matters.
“Here they are asking for attention regarding imports of raw materials and several imports which are obstacles. Earlier the president’s direction was clear for us to accelerate and resolve things,” said Bahlil.
