Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The government targets poverty and extreme poverty to drop dramatically next year. Specifically for extreme poverty, the government is targeting the number to drop to 0% by 2024.
“Our target is 0% in 2024,” said the Deputy for Human Development Policy Support and Equitable Development of the Setwapres, Suprayoga Hadi to CNBC Indonesia in the Your Money Your Vote event, the 2024 RAPBN edition quoted, Friday (25/8/2023).
He said Indonesia’s achievement in alleviating poverty was actually quite significant. According to him, currently the poverty rate in Indonesia has reached 9.36%, down from when the Covid-19 pandemic hit, which was 9.41%. According to him, this figure is still far from the government’s target of 6% to 7%.
“Even though it has increased by 2 digits, at least we have tried to reduce it even though it is still far from the target,” he said.
He said extreme poverty is currently at the level of 1.12%. He said that next year the government is targeting the number of very poor people to be zero, aka 0%. Yoga admits that this target is quite ambitious.
He said the government was trying to achieve this target by strengthening the social protection budget (Perlinsos). Next year’s Perlinsos budget is proposed to reach Rp 493 trillion.
“Hopefully it won’t reach at least 0 to 0.3% next year,” he said.
Apart from Perlinsos, he said the government is also trying to alleviate poverty by overcoming stunting or chronic malnutrition. He said the government is targeting the stunting rate to fall from 21.6% to 14% next year.
