Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Aging is a natural process that every human being experiences as they age. Some people willing to spend a large pocket to prevent the appearance of signs of aging on the face.
Even so, it would be better if you find out the causes of premature aging. Not a bad habit like smoking, it turns out that there is a natural process that makes a person look older than their age.
Researchers at George Mason University, Virginia, United States found that women who have children tend to experience faster DNA aging.
The researchers researched telomeres which is an important part of human cells. Telomeres, or the ends of chromosomes, have long been used as a benchmark for a person’s biological age by scientists. Researchers believe that as people age, their telomeres shorten, and therefore telomere length is associated with better health and a longer life.
The new findings show that the telomeres of women who have children are the same length as those who are 11 years older, than women who do not have children or childfree.
“We were surprised to find such striking results. We found that women who had five or more children had shorter telomeres compared to those who did not have children, and relatively shorter compared to those with one, two, three, or four. even,” said researcher Anna Pollack, as quoted from New York Post.
Researchers analyzed data from about 2,000 women aged 20 to 44 years. They found telomere shortening in mothers outweighs the effects of smoking or obesity.
But the findings don’t mean mothers are likely to die 11 years earlier than women without children. A study published in 2016 found mothers who gave birth in their 30s tended to live longer.
