Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The ranks of finance ministers and central bank governors of ASEAN countries will gather in Jakarta from Tuesday (22/8/2023) to Friday (25/8/2023) to discuss economic problems currently facing the world to the weakening of China’s economic growth.
Head of the Ministry of Finance’s Center for Regional and Bilateral Policy Yogi Rahmayanti said the meeting was held within the framework of the second ASEAN Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting, as well as involving other global institutions, such as the IMF, World Bank, ADB, ASEAN +3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO). , as well as the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA).
“So, there are consequences from the Russia-Ukraine war, then there are also interest rate policies in America, then there are also indications of an economic slowdown in China. Now this is what the ministers and central bank governors will discuss at the AFMGM,” said Yogi in a media briefing in the Central Jakarta area, Monday (21/8/2023).
In addition to discussing issues of global economic conditions, Yogi said, the Indonesian government in chairing ASEAN 2023 also carried out discussions on a special agenda for development. Included in the Priority Economic Deliverables theme in the ASEAN financial sector pillar.
This includes the theme of recovery-rebuilding after the COVID-19 pandemic by carrying out a meeting between ASEAN finance ministers and health ministers. Infrastructure financing in the concept of the ASEAN Infrastructure Fund and the ASEAN Taxonomy for Sustainable Finance, as well as Regional Tax and Custom Cooperation.
“So we need to see what the current status of COVID is like. So here later as a series of AFMGM, there will be a meeting with the Minister of Finance and Minister of Health from all ASEAN countries,” he said.
Then, the second theme is related to the digital economy by encouraging the acceleration of payment connectivity progress, promoting inclusiveness and financial literacy as well as digital financing in order to boost the pace of regional economic growth, and strengthen the resilience of its financial sector.
Finally, the theme in this context is sustainability, with the discussion directed at promoting the financing of an economic transition towards a greener direction. Among them will be launched version 2 of the ASEAN Taxonomy for Sustainable Finance on 27 March 2023, to discussing policies on climate-related risks.
