Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – One of the things that the Minister of Communication and Informatics (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi did when he took office was to fight online gambling.
Budi said that his party had blocked the Higgs Domino Island (HDI) application on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
“The Ministry of Communication and Information has cut off access to High Dominos Island, now there is no HDI on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store,” he said during an Update press conference regarding the Eradication of Online Gambling, some time ago.
Not only HDI, from 17 July 2023 to 7 August 2023, Kominfo has cut off access to 42 thousand online gambling content.
“On average every day we terminate access to 1,500 to 2,000 sites and dozens of applications, including game applications related to online gambling, which are similar to HDI,” said Budi.
Furthermore, Budi revealed that the data he collected found that the circulation of money at Higgs Domino Island could reach Rp. 2.2 trillion per month.
“Meaning that a year can be up to around Rp. 27 trillion, that’s for just one site,” he said.
He also ensured that his party would take concrete steps to stop online gambling. For example, by coordinating with the police in the context of law enforcement.
Enforcement will be carried out throughout the online gambling ecosystem. Including developers, dealers, sponsors, those who promote, and those who are behind the activity.
“This is the task of arresting, the task of taking action, right? Law enforcement officers. That’s why we will immediately coordinate with the law enforcement agencies, especially the Republic of Indonesia Police regarding steps,” he said.
On that occasion, he also alluded to a streamer who was ‘swept’ by an online gambling platform. Responding to this, Budi said the pattern would be seen.
“So this is all comprehensive work. So we surround everything later, including the matter of law enforcement.” he concluded.
