Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Semambu Island Village, located in Indralaya Utara District, Ogan Ilir District, has achieved remarkable achievements in developing environmentally friendly agriculture. This was realized thanks to the support of the Independent Energy Village (DEB) program from Pertamina Patra Niaga Southern Sumatra Regional. By utilizing renewable solar energy, this program has had a significant positive impact on society and the environment.
DEB is the main initiative of Pertamina Patra Niaga Southern Sumatra Region which aims to empower local communities through the utilization of solar energy. This program involves environmental, economic, and educational aspects. One of the real achievements of this program is the use of solar panels which have successfully overcome challenges in agricultural irrigation in this village.
Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Communication, Relations & CSR CSR Area Manager for Southern Sumatra Tjahyo Nikho Indrawan, revealed that the Berdikari Energy Village program is clear evidence of Pertamina’s commitment to providing support and empowering communities through renewable energy.
“We have provided assistance in the form of solar panels, not only to solve the issue of irrigation in agriculture, but also to encourage community economic growth,” Tjahyo said in a press release, Saturday (26/8/2023).
With solar panels with a capacity of 6.54 kWp and lithium battery energy storage technology of 10 kWh, this program is capable of producing 8,442 kWh of energy per year. This brings potential electricity cost savings of around IDR 13 million per year.
“The application of solar energy not only provides economic benefits, but also supports more sustainable and environmentally friendly agriculture by reducing carbon emissions by 8,502 kg CO2eq per year,” he said.
More than 140 farmers have directly benefited from the integrated farming practices supported by the DEB program. The establishment of the Home Industry Group which consisted of 10 members also had an impact, with an increase in farmers’ income by 30% and turnover reaching IDR 1,500,000 per month per farmer, and IDR 1,000,000 per month per group.
Pertamina CSR Manager Thahir Dian Hapsari Firasati explained that the DEB program also involved training and support in the use of solar panels, business management and digital marketing to the public.
“This program does not only focus on energy, but also contributes to improving the economy and the environment. We hope this program can be expanded and adopted by other regions to create a wider positive impact,” he said.
The Independent Energy Village Program in Pulau Semambu Village has become a successful example in developing environmentally friendly agriculture and utilizing renewable solar energy. Through collaboration between the community, government and companies such as Pertamina, the goal of achieving environmental and economic sustainability can be realized.
