Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – It is reported that the satellite network, Starlink, will provide internet services at a rate of IDR 2-3 million per month. It is estimated that this price will have a speed of 10 Mbps.
“For satellites, the figure is Rp. 3 million, under 10 Mbps. Meanwhile, for residential areas it is up to 20 Mpbs or 15 Mbps, that is around Rp. 300 thousand,” said Secretary General of the Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association (APJII), Zulfadly Syam to CNBC IndonesiaThursday (7/9/2023).
According to him, satellites are still much more expensive than other technologies. In fact, he confirmed that the price could reach millions.
For the size of IDR 3 million, it depends on the capabilities of each region. If you can afford it, you might use that option. However, there could be areas that are thinking again.
“It can’t be made yet, the price is hundreds of thousands of rupiah, I think [kalau harga ratusan ribu rupiah] not yet able to close satellite operations. “We still have millions,” he explained.
“Rural communities in mountainous areas, agriculture, I think the price of millions will be a consideration,” he added.
Zulfadly explained that there are several things you need to pay attention to regarding the price of Starlink services. It’s not just tariffs, but there is also the matter of an entity’s need for internet.
“Because the price that can be paid must be in accordance with capacity. Capacity is an entity’s internet needs. If an entity needs 100 below that 50 Mbps, how much will Starlink charge for that 50 Mbps?” he said.
Apart from that, he also highlighted the issue of security. Indonesia itself often talks about security issues, including fixing and resolving these problems.
However, what happened instead was bringing in Starlink, namely a company from abroad. “The interconnection uses providers directly abroad,” said Zulfadly.
