Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) always helps the progress of community businesses around the mining area in Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra. One of them was realized by PTBA by supporting the development of batik craftsmen through the establishment of the Bukit Asam Industrial Center (SIBA) Batik Kujur.
The hallmark of Kujur Batik is the motif design that elevates local wisdom, namely kujur, coffee, tengkiang house, and tanjung flowers. Kujur itself is a traditional weapon in the form of a spear which is a legacy of the ancestors of the people of Tanjung Enim, South Sumatra.
PTBA itself facilitates SIBA Batik through the provision of Kujur Batik Outlets in the SIBA Center area. Furthermore, to support the production process, the company has made social investments through the provision of facilities and infrastructure needed for batik activities and infrastructure development in the form of the Kujur Batik production house located in Tanjung Hamlet.
Vice President of Sustainability of PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), Hartono said the provision of this infrastructure was provided as PTBA’s effort to support the Batik Kujur production process in innovating into more varied products.
Evidently, now SIBA has a variety of products that have been produced, including eco-friendly Batik Kujur which is made using natural dyes that utilize endemic plants.
Apart from selling products in the form of sheets of batik cloth, the craftsmen also create various innovations for Batik Kujur products such as hats, fans, wallets, bags, clothes and masks.
In line with the infrastructure that has been invested, the company has also equipped the group in fulfilling capacity building in the form of Batik Competency Improvement Training.
