Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – In recent times, air pollution in Jakarta has continued to worsen. The air quality in the capital city is still in the bad category.
Responding to this, the Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin explained that his party was in charge of the downstream. Namely related to handling the consequences, such as diseases that appear after air pollution appears.
For this reason, Budi reminded several things for the community. Namely wearing a mask and avoiding leaving the house when the air quality is deteriorating.
“In the health sector, I can only suggest what the public should do to protect it. Indeed, wear a mask. Number two, look at the apps. If the air conditions are bad, it’s better not to go out. It’s better to stay at home,” he explained after Tech Conference 2023 CNBC IndonesiaTuesday night (23/8/2023).
Apart from these two things, Budi also appealed to prepare themselves for those who are sick. Starting from the doctor to the drugs.
“To prepare if someone is sick, we have to be ready for the doctor, the hospital and the medicines,” said Budi.
Budi said solving the upstream problem was another ministry’s part. He also admits that pollution will not be finished if it only takes care of it downstream.
Therefore, Budi also appealed to parties in the fields of energy, environment, and transportation. He advised them not to add to the burden on air quality.
“But in my opinion, if you keep dealing with it downstream, it won’t be finished, because the problem is upstream. I also urge friends working in energy, environment, transportation not to add to it. If we add more, the burden will get heavier,” said Budi.
But according to him the problem of air pollution can be solved. He gave an example of China which could change air quality before and after the Olympics in Beijing some time ago.
“Air pollution can be handled really. Let’s see China, before the Beijing Olympics and after Beijing very quickly,” he concluded.
