Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The General Election for the President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia will only be held on February 14, 2024. Even so, Netizens have already chosen their presidential candidate.
Three names have been plastered as potential presidential candidates for the Republic of Indonesia in 2024, namely Anies Baswedan, Prabowo Subianto, and Ganjar Pranowo.
Various electability surveys of the candidates are continuing. CNBC Indonesia is also trying to find out which presidential candidate is the most popular in the eyes of netizens, by using voting via Instagram Story and the Twitter account @cnbcindonesia.
Every social media used seems to have its favorite presidential candidate.
On Instagram, Prabowo ranks first with a share of 41% of the vote, the second number is occupied by Ganjar with 38% while Anies is in third place with a share of 21%. The number of voters in this poll was only 429 people.
Meanwhile on Twitter the position is reversed, where Anies’ name is the most popular at 63.4%, second is Ganjar with 21% and Prabowo with 15.6%. The number of voters on Twitter is much higher, namely 76,692 votes.
The polling period via the CNBC Indonesia account was carried out for two days on 2-3 May 2023. Of course as a poll, this election via social media cannot be scientifically justified. Voting via social media is only an attempt to find sentiment on social media.
In addition, it should be noted, social media does not reflect real sentiment on the ground, but since the 2014 presidential election, social media has become a fairly effective campaign tool. Each presidential candidate uses social media accounts to show their respective achievements and attract voters.
According to data from We Are Social, there are 191 million active social media users in Indonesia in January 2022. That number has increased by 12.35% compared to the previous year of 170 million people.
Each social media platform has its own characteristics, for example Twitter which tends to be free and easy to express opinions because of the ease of using anonymous accounts, while IG is relatively ‘jaim’ and is a visual container while Facebook can be said to be a mixture of Twitter and IG.
The popularity of each presidential candidate also differs between existing platforms.
On Facebook, Prabowo’s official account dominates, with 10 million followers. This figure is far above Ganjar’s 2.3 million and Anies’ 1.9 million.
On a Twitter account known for being freer and hotter in debate, Anies narrowly won with 4.9 million compared to Prabowo’s 4.6 million followers.
Ganjar won on the number of followers on Instagram of 6 million, narrowly ahead of Anies who has 4.9 million followers.
It is to be expected that Prabowo’s superiority will occur because he has participated in two political contests in 2014 and 2019 while Anies was in the 2017 DKI regional election which was quite fierce.
