Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Perhaps there are still many people who don’t know that scaling teeth or cleaning tartar and plaque is one of the dental treatments that can be covered by BPJS Health. Terms and conditions applied?
For your information, dental scaling is non-surgical dental treatment that uses an ultrasonic scaler. This treatment, which removes remaining plaque and erodes tartar, aims to reduce the risk of toothache and prevent mouth and gum disease.
Generally, the costs for teeth scaling are not cheap. However, people can get free dental scaling treatment using BPJS Health.
However, there are conditions for people who want to have their teeth scaled using BPJS Health. It should be noted, teeth scaling is only free using BPJS Health if there is a medical indication, not for aesthetic reasons.
“Tooth scaling in acute gingivitis (gum inflammation) can be guaranteed by BPJS Health with a guarantee period of every two years,” wrote BPJS Health via its official Twitter account (@BPJSKesehatanRI), quoted on Sunday (10/9/2023).
“Examinations can be carried out at registered FKTP (First Level Health Facilities) based on medical indications and cannot be done at your own request,” continued BPJS Health.
Through this statement, BPJS Health only covers dental scaling treatment based on medical indications, not for aesthetic reasons. This is also stated in the National Health Insurance-Healthy Indonesia Card (JKN-KIS) service guide by BPJS Health.
“Health services for aesthetic purposes are not guaranteed by JKN-KIS,” wrote BPJS Health.
Teeth scaling procedure using BPJS Health
1. BPJS Health participants go to the first health facility (faskes), namely the Puskesmas or clinic. At the first health facility, BPJS Health participants or patients need to complete the administration process by showing an active BPJS Health card.
2. The dentist will carry out an examination. If there are medical indications that require the patient to receive tartar cleaning services, then scaling can be done free of charge at the first health facility.
3. If there are more serious medical indications that require referral to a further health facility, BPJS Health participants must obtain a doctor’s referral from the first health facility first. The referral letter will be used for treatment at a health facility referral hospital, especially a specialist or sub-specialist dentist.
