Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Budi Gunadi Sadikin’s early career journey as Minister of Health was not easy. He was faced with the problem of Covid-19 until he was scolded by regional leaders.
When Covid-19 broke out, patient data in RI was not appropriate. At that time, the results of the Covid-19 test were given in stages from the city/regency to the provincial offices, where it was suspected that the data could be changed.
In the end, Budi and his team had another way so that the test results could reach him directly. Namely cutting the line and making the laboratory report directly to the Ministry of Health.
At that time, the test results were entered directly into the Google Form. In this way, Budi can find out about the Covid-19 case before regional leaders do.
“Check the positive (results) at night, I already know. Because the lab has already entered it. The Health Office, the Mayor don’t know yet, it’s out. As soon as it’s done, all the governors, including those running, become the President, angry with me. Because the numbers are all out,” he explained, during the 2023 CNBC Indonesia Tech Conference, Tuesday night (23/8/2023).
The man who is familiarly called BGS was also angry with a number of doctors. This is related to the telemedicine policy that he implemented some time ago.
“Doctors at least agree with telemedicine services. Because the practice is regionally based, Jakarta doctors practice in Jakarta. They lose their land,” said Budi.
The pandemic also forced them to do telemedicine. This situation forces doctors and patients to meet face to face.
Budi also directly lobbied the telemedicine platform to provide services for free. The same goes for logistics startups.
“As the Minister of Health, I was constantly criticized. But in the end, I was praised because of this [telemedicine] People are benefiting,” he said.
