Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – China is beginning to overtake the United States in the artificial intelligence (AI/Artificial Intelligence) technology sector. More than 70 AI language models with more than 1 billion parameters have been released in the country.
This was disclosed by the CEO of Baidu Inc. Robin Li. His company also took part in the launch of an AI chatbot that was carried out last week, quoted Reuters, Wednesday (6/9/2023).
Apart from Baidu, there are also facial recognition companies SenseTme and AI startups Baichuan Intelligent Technology, Zhipu AI and Minimax. All of them have obtained permission to launch the mass market.
Robin Li explained that Ernie 3.5, Baidu’s AI chatbot, has twice the processing speed than before. This chatbot increase reached 50%.
The latest version of Chatbot Ernie will also be released in the near future, said Robin Li.
China’s latest move seems to want to beat the US in a technology war. The two countries are known to have been involved in a technology war for several years.
Both China and the US are trying to outdo and subvert each other. For example by cutting off the opponent’s technological developments.
One of them is done by the US. The country led by Joe Biden often exclaims that Chinese technology is dangerous for US society.
The US also continues to tighten China’s technology growth path. Namely by blocking the technology from the US and allied countries.
One company that fell victim is Huawei. During Donald Trump’s leadership, the company was included in the US blacklist.
The list eventually crippled Huawei’s smartphone business globally. The cellphone could no longer use Android and finally developed its own operating system called HarmonyOS.
